Check for event pictures coming soon to our Gallery page.
The 2009 event was held June 5th & 6th at the Best Western Victorian Inn, here in Hutchinson. Friday was a gorgeous spring day and the event kicked off at Valley Chevrolet. 235 hot dogs were grilled and 11 cases of soda were served. On display in the showroom was a one of a kind totally restored 1958 owned by Jim VanNurden of Litchfield and a 1967 Coupe owned by Richard Goebel.
Next it was on to the Hotel for registration where 79 cars were checked in. After registration the Hidden Time Rally was beginning. A 53 minute, 42.4 mile timed cruise with 4 hidden questions to answer. We had 39 cars participate in the rally and the winners of the rally were:

Later in the afternoon and also Saturday am a blind faith autocross was held in the parking lot. There were 42 runs through the course including one that resulted in hitting a light pole. Only minor damage was sustained to the golf cart. The winners of the event are:

Next on Friday came the “Vettes Kick-n Up Dust” western style welcome party. A western themed trivia contest was held awarding prizes to 25 lucky winners. The contestants had to “jump” on a saddled horse to answer each question. Later live music was heard by Joe McPherson and Mary Lou Martin. We all danced away the evening and some of us into the early part of the morning.
Saturday came very early, as we had to set-up for the funkana at the Hutch Bowl. We showed up at 8:00 am and by 9:00 am we were ready to go! The weather wasn’t as it proceeded to rain for the first time in almost a month. We waited out the rain for approximately 1 ½ hours but to no avail. Funkana canceled! The hidden time rally was ran for those who missed it on Friday and some energetic contestants also ran the blind faith autocross in the rain. Next it was time for the Dart Run, where each participant had to make 5 stops at 5 different locations to throw one dart. The total of 5 darts determined the winners. We had 88 participants.
1st Place (143 points) Gwen Granquist, Burnsville, MN.
2nd Place (124 points) Jerome Ide, Glencoe, MN.
3rd Place (117 points) Donna Miller, Atwater, MN.
The next event was the car show, which was fortunately held indoors at the McLeod County Fairgrounds. Cars were wiped down and polished up for the judging. Plaques were awarded for each class and also best of show.

Then it was time to rest up and proceed to the awards banquet for dinner and social hour. An award was given for the longest distance driven and for the second year in a row, the winner was Denny Mathistad & Pat Porter from Erie, CO. An honorable mention was also given to the Kansas City Corvette Association which came up to the event with 11 cars. Lastly, it was time to hold the raffle drawing with over $2000 in prizes. Top 4 winners:
Grand Prize: Jerry McPherson, Shawnee KS, $200.00 cash
2nd Prize: Judy Kaczmarek, Hayfield, MN, Lighted Corvette Print
3rd Prize: Shirley Runberg, Brainerd, MN, Navigation System
4th Prize: Ruth Schaefer, New Ulm, MN.
We had two special guests performing at our Welcome Party this year: Nashville recording artist Joe McPherson and Mary Lou Martin.
Since the funkana was rained out, we held an indoor event replacing the funkana. Contestants had to ride a children’s scooter around the dance floor without hitting anything.
1st place: Paul Betker, Hutchinson, MN.
2nd place: Ed Mossman, Independence, MO.
3rd place: Terri Ahlbrecht, Hutchinson, MN.

Our club is about the size of yours and I am not sure we could have accomplished what you did. THANK YOU!!! We are looking forward to next years gathering and will definitely try and get more of your club members up there.
Candy and Vern:
What a fun time we had all weekend. You guys are the best planners. I know it was a lot of work. But everything went off really nicely. We had a great time. I am so excited to take my canopy to the lake tomorrow. I am going to put it on the deck. I have just the place for it. It will have lots of happy hours and fish fry picnics under it. That is super. Just wanted to thank you for all your preparation. You did a great job. Everyone that I talked to had a super time. There was something for everyone. The dinners were great. That fairground area is great. Nice town. Nice people.
Thanks again for everything. We loved it.
Jim & Marilyn:
